At the end of 2018, we set up our CANactions Publishing House
, which specializes in the appearance and distribution of high-quality professional literature in the field of architecture and urban development. During this time, with the support of the community of benefactors, have already been published such Ukrainian bestsellers as "Cities for People" by Jen Gehl and "The Four Walls and a Roof: The Complex Nature of Simple Profession" by Reinier de Graaf. With the funds raised from the distribution of these books has been published another well-known bestseller—"Walkable City Rules. 101 Steps to Making Better Places" by Jeff Speck.
The fourth book of CANactions Publishing House will be "Alle wollen wohnen. Gerecht. Sozial. Bezahlbar" by German architects Ursula Kleefisch-Jobst, Peter Köddermann, Karen Jung.
This book provides a comprehensive overview of the topic of affordable housing: from significant 1920s models to contemporary concepts. There is a lack of affordable housing nowadays, especially in big cities. Displacement processes have made life in the city a privilege for some segments of the population. In addition, social changes, the diversity of new models and lifestyles influence the demands and expectations of contemporary housing.
The authors focus on aspects of architectural and urban planning, as well as legal framework conditions, financing issues, and building standards. Expert essays highlight the problem of housing from different points of view, the solution of which is crucial for the social cohesion of our society.
We believe that the publishing of this book will be one of the first steps to address the issue of affordable and comfortable housing in Ukraine.
The presentation of the book will be held at the CANactions Festival
2020 on May 15–16 in Kyiv. Ursula Kleefisch-Jobst will visit Ukraine for the first time and will present the "Alle wollen wohnen. Gerecht. Sozial. Bezahlbar"
to the Ukrainian audience.
