CAN DAGARSLANI

Graduating in 2006 from Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, Istanbul, Can Dagarslani age 35, became increasingly more interested in photography while studying architecture.

Can Dagarslani challenges his audience with his very specific view of the world. His work is a fusion of architecture and photography coupled with a strong focus on (a)symmetry, distinctive colour codes and subtly expressive models in silently quirky, spacious settings.

Dagarslani, whose vision considers the connection between urban serenity and the meaning of identity within and alongside said structures, draws inspiration from his architectural background, as well as his innermost understanding of people's perceptions and illusions. The result is an inimitable body of work that surfs the fine line between visual confrontation and playful imagery.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

The Workshop focuses on the perception of the space, as well as the perspectives and layers of it, which becomes a journey for participants while creating their own compositions. The surrounding geometries play a key role, becoming as much a character in the visual narrative as the models themselves. Documenting and exposing the limits of our generation's Identities are reflected in a precious, deep and intimate abnormality of the final images. Love for urbanism and architecture is evident in the organized quirkiness and sometimes sarcastic game of the human form.

The Workshop consists of two parts—theoretical and practical. In the first part Can Dagarslani guides the participants through his love of analog photography, beauty of natural light, human relations, fragility of social boundaries and all other drugs, which became his preferable thematic. In the second part of the Workshop, participants attend the shooting. They move to different locations, together with Can creating, changing and analyzing the sets, collaborating with the talented team of models, stylists, hair and makeup artists.

During the Workshop participants release their creativity and learn how to reach the uniqueness in their own photographs. Each participant has a chance to expose his/her selected work during the exhibition at CANactions International Architecture Festival 2020.

Photographers, artist, visual
story tellers are welcome to take part in a 2-day Intensive Analog Photography Workshop Identities curated by Can Dagarslani.
